There were certainly downsides to being a vampire, but sex was not one of them. It didn’t hurt that Dominic was relentless and aggressively generous with his tongue. Bonus points for not having to breathe. Unlike her ex, he didn’t come up for air after thirty seconds and ask, “Did you come yet?” after a few half-hearted passes with his tongue.

He swallowed hard and nodded. “I care for you,” he said in a rough voice.

“You are the most generous, honorable, and thoroughly decent man I’ve ever known,” she said. “And if the first time is quick, then we’ll do it again and again until we’ve had our fill.”

The wary look in his eyes faded. Despite walking off a few gunshots and tossing a vampire hunter like a softball, it was the realization that she had made him feel safe that felt like real power. When his shoulders finally relaxed, she felt invincible.

Slowly, she lay back and welcomed him into her arms. There was a startling jolt of sensation as he slid into her. Far more intense than simply holding his hand, this was tension and spark, right on the edge of pain, but exhilarating. Then he drove deeper, and she realized that even if he lasted only a few seconds, he was going to ruin her for any other man. The feel of him, thick and warm, was heaven.

When his hips came to rest against her, something in her heart settled, as if to say this is what’s been missing. The entire world came to a halt.

“Carina,” he groaned. When he kissed her forehead, she caught the hint of salt on her lip. He surreptitiously swiped at his eyes, then lowered himself to her, sliding into her in slow, deep strokes.
